Have you wondered why our national leaders never seem to do what we want them to? Especially our senators and representatives, who always seem to do the exact opposite of what we want. If we are going to restore the rule of the people, we need to change the system. We need a plan that cuts the strings between rich people and their puppets. A plan that makes us the puppetmasters.
That plan is public campaign financing: the complete funding of national elections by tax dollars. How much would it cost to win this epic battle? Based on current campaign spending figures, it would cost $4 billion per year to buy back and take control of our $4 trillion government. This would match current total private expenditures and then some. It’s a fair market price. Only then will we take over the reins of authority. Only then will our elected representatives actually work for us. Only then will we get to drive our own car off the lot.
So who would resist such an obvious solution? Unfortunately, everyone. Current office holders will be opposed because the present system strongly favors their re-election – as most private money goes to incumbents. And all those private contributors will also be opposed – of course. No one wants to be outbid, outmanned, and outplanned. Certainly not by ordinary voters. Not when they have such a fantastic bargain. They will become completely unhinged at the possibility of American voters taking back control of their own government.
This is where you and I, the American people, come in. We have the one thing our leaders want even more than money. The sparkling jewel that all this money is really intended to buy in the first place. The holy grail of every politician ever born….our vote. This is our true currency. The simple lever that can move the world. Our precious. So let’s use it. We the people must insist on public financing of campaigns for the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. And we must withhold our vote from any candidate who refuses to support us. If we truly band together, no one can stop us!
